Welcome to this library and research guide for FYS 101*M / Coffee: The Magic Bean with Dr. Wolfgang Lueckel. In this guide, you will find library resources discussed in class, tips for searching, useful links, and other information related to doing library research. Have a question? Get in touch!
TIP: see Finding Articles & Books @ AC below for tips on subject-based searching.
Using a SUBJECT based search will enable you to more precisely target a search within your topic.
Some Subject Headings you may wish to try searching with are noted here:
Coffee | Coffee industry | Coffee History | Coffeehouses History |
TIP: Use the hyperlinked subjects above, and then add a keyword in Advanced Search to search within the subject.
Many books on coffee-related topics can be found in many different areas of the library, depending on the context - agriculture, environmental sciences, food & drink, history, political science, sociology, among others. Try looking under these call number groups - but remember, these are only a few examples:
GE 10 Environmental sciences |
HC 145 Economic history |
HD 9199 Agricultural industries |
TX 415 & TX 908 Nutrition; Food service |
Look for the first letter of the call number (for example, TX415 .P46) on the end of the shelves to find what you're looking for or to browse. Circulating books are located on the 2nd floor of the library.
TIP: Once you have found a couple of books in the catalog and have located them on the shelves, browse in the same area to see if there are other titles of interest. This is a great way to locate a title that a catalog search may have missed!
