NYTimes.com Group Pass Instructions

You are no longer required to be on campus to activate or manage your NYTimes.com Group Pass. Please follow the instructions below to set up your access, regardless of where you are!

We are excited to provide the entire Austin College community FREE online access to The New York Times through the NYTimes.com Group Pass. The Group Pass may be utilized by all students, faculty, and staff to effectively gain a digital subscription to The New York Times!

This service gives students, faculty, and staff full access to NYTimes.com and the NYTimes mobile apps, as well as their international editions. Users will find a variety of topics covered with unsurpassed quality and depth through breaking news articles, blogs, videos and interactive features. Convenient section lists and search tools make navigation simple.

In addition, users can discover and share content on social networks, save articles, subscribe to email newsletters of areas of interest and receive news alerts, either on predefined topics or through a keyword search the user designates.

Please follow the steps below to activate your Group Pass to NYTimes.com. Contact Andrew Smith with any questions or if you experience any problems activating your pass.

On Campus Directions

Ensure you are connected to the AC network, and visit this page. Once you reach the 'Welcome to the New York Times' screen, click 'Create Account' to begin. Then, proceed with steps 1-5 below.

Off Campus Directions

Visit this page, and follow the prompts to log in with your Austin College network ID and password (the same credentials you use for your email and workstation logins). Once you reach the 'Welcome to the New York Times' screen, click 'Create Account' to begin. (Note: pass activation may not function correctly if you are using a VPN.) Then, proceed with steps 1-5 below.

Steps 1 - 5 (All Users):

  1. When you see 'Create Your Complimentary Account,' use your Austin College email address and follow the prompts to set a password and select your user type. (Students will need to enter their anticipated graduation year.)
  2. Click 'Get Started,' then follow the prompts to customize your NYTimes.com experience. You can also input your mobile phone number to receive a texted link to download the NYTimes app.
  3. Continue to begin reading NYTimes.com in your web browser.
    • On Campus Users: you should see 'Account' in the upper right corner of the screen when logged in. If you navigate away from the page and come back, you may see 'Log In' instead; simply enter the credentials you created again to access your account.
    • Off Campus Users: you may not see 'Account' or 'Log In' in the upper right corner of the NYTimes.com homepage screen; this is due to your authenticating via our proxy server. You are still logged in to your account, it just displays differently.
  4. You are now all set to enjoy seamless full access to NYTimes.com, INYT.com and the NYTimes mobile apps just by logging in to your NYTimes.com account from any location, on or off campus.
  5. You can bookmark the site, or just visit the Databases page of our website and locate the New York Times (Current Edition) from the A-Z list of databases. Download the NYTimes mobile apps here

For further assistance, please reference the documents to the left. Your pass will be valid for at least one year. If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch. Happy reading!
